Workshops have been led in the U.S., Hong Kong, U.K., Brasil, British Virgin Islands, Germany, Mexico, and Nepal in Schools, Colleges, Detention Centers, Community Centers, After-School Programs, Public Parks, Large Scale Events and Festivals.

Aerial Dance

Workshops are designed for participants of all levels to explore and develop the grace and strength of aerial dance. Aerial workshops may be set up as intensive group sessions, weekend long workshops and/or private lessons. Participants will be challenged in physical movement, balance and flexibility. Workshops are fun, freeing and exhilarating. if you’ve ever wanted to learn to fly, here’s your chance!

Aerial Dance Workshops may focus on a number of apparatus: silks (fabrics/tissu), hammock (sling), loops (straps), lyra (hoop), or aerial yoga (wide slings). Apparatus specifics will need to be determined prior to the workshops. Rigging requirements do exist, and we can discuss specifics with you when booking the workshops.

Private Lessons are also available for participants who prefer to have a more private, intensive experience. Private lessons offer one-on-one attention between instructor and participant, thus propelling participants knowledge base and experience.

Specialized Workshops can be designed to meet the participant’s and/or community’s needs. Workshops may be especially designed to address a community issue or goal, such as trust, working together, or problem-solving. Specialized workshops are personal, effective and enjoyable.

Aerial Performance

Workshops are designed for participants of intermediate and advanced levels who are interested in finishing and fine tuning their performance pieces. Participants will be required to have music and choreography specifically chosen to work on for the workshops.

Aerial Performance workshops will give participants the refinement and coaching needed to create a finished, strong aerial performance piece. Participants will be encouraged to incorporate floor movement as transition into and out of the aerial apparatuses. Participants will leave the workshops with a finished performance piece, a strong understanding of performance technique, facial expression, body contour/lines, etc., so that future pieces may be choreographed with the same strengths, sharpness and fine-tuning of professional performances.

Private Lessons are also available for participants who prefer to have a more private, intensive experience. Private lessons offer one-on-one attention between instructor and participant, thus propelling participants knowledge base and experience.

Capoeira

Capoeira workshops lead participants through the basic movements of this popular Afro-Brazilian dance form. Emphasizing physical fitness, musicality, dance and rhythm, participants will learn the history and the motivation for these acrobatic movements. Both Angola and Regional styles and rhythms will be introduced.

Participants of all ages are welcome, and more intermediate or advanced classes may be scheduled for experienced participants or those wishing to learn more.

Capoeira Musica

Capoeira Music workshops introduce participants to the African-based Brazilian instruments of Capoeira: The berimbau (1-stringed gourd guitar), pandeiro (tambourine), atabaque (congo drum), agogô (bells), and reco-reco (scraper).

This workshop requires these specialized instruments or similar substitutions. All ages are welcome! Participants will learn basic rhythms for all instruments as well as call and response songs used in Capoeira.

Maculele Machete Dance

Maculele is the Afro-Brazilian machete dance that is associated with Capoeira. The advanced dance form utilizes machetes, however this movement workshop can be taught to beginners with sticks or just by using hands and clapping rhythms.

Participants will learn the basic rhythms, movements and the history of this vibrant dance form. A great coordination exercise and participants love the arm work out! All ages are welcome!

Supplies: dowel rods (1″ diameter x 16″ length)

Expressive Dance

Workshops are designed for participants of all levels, dancers and non dancers alike, to explore the spiritual and expressive side of our psyches. There are no rules, choreography or final performances in expressive dance. This is a form that is in the moment and completely surrendering to the creative energy of now. Participants will be guided create a safe space within the confines of the studio. We will then explore emotional movement through music and limitless expression of our forms. Utilizing techniques from multiple movement philosophies, this is a process that is both freeing and reconnecting to the self.

These workshops can be adjusted for all levels of participants as well as incorporating a community dance where all participants may put their new skills to use! Workshops are fun, encouraging and specific to the community’s needs.)

Improvisational Dance

Workshops are designed for participants of all levels, dancers and non dancers alike, to encourage taking creative risks by releasing choreography and walking into improvisation. Participants will work as soloists, in partners and in larger groups while creating new and innovative, and most importantly, fun pieces! Participants will learn about body contour, weight sharing, partner balancing, tableau creation, character and non-character movement, and much more!

These workshops can be adjusted for all levels of participants as well as incorporating a community dance where all participants may put their new skills to use! Workshops are fun, encouraging and specific to the community’s needs.

Latin & Ballroom Dance

Workshops are designed for participants of all levels to explore the international love of ballroom and latin dances! Participants will learn both leading and following so that a partner is not needed for these workshops. Students will be introduced to the standards of smooth and latin dances, basic steps and movements as well as musical cues and understanding.

These workshops can be adjusted for all levels of participants as well as incorporating a community dance where all participants may put their new skills to use! Workshops are fun, encouraging and specific to the community’s needs.

Private Lessons are also available for participants who prefer to have a more private, intensive experience. Private lessons offer one-on-one attention between instructor and participant(s), thus propelling participants knowledge base and experience.

Dance Theory & Site Specific Community Pieces

Workshops are designed for participants who are interested in exploring and expressing the impetus for movement. Dance Theory workshops will engage participants in discussions that will give greater understanding and motivation to their choreography and musical choices. We will explore the idea of performance from both performer’s and audience member’s viewpoints, the cultural and social history of dance as well as the present social importance of movement in our Post-Modern world.

Site-Specific Community Pieces are the result of workshop collaboration. After developing a strong collaborative bond, participants can venture out into the world to co-create a movement piece on-site. This is where the fun really begins! In connecting with the environment, each other and themselves, participants will gain a deepened sense of creative motivation and a greater understanding for development within the constraints or the themes of a site. The actual site will help to determine the piece, not just the participants. This workshop becomes a community collaboration when the environment, the audience (or lack there of), the participants and the weather all play an equal and vital role in this creation.

Intensives, Private Lessons & Specialized Workshops

Intensive Workshops may be offered to communities for an in-depth, concentrated experience of any one or a combination of projects. Intensives are highly effective in environments where a short-term residency is necessary for time constraints. Weekend intensives are popular, as well as one-day intensive progressive sessions.
